Life in Harmony with the Land
An experience in the mountains of Costa Rica.
Botanical Corner is a working farm and animal refuge where every part of the animal’s life is valued — from milk and wool to the land that sustains them.
Sustainable living, shared with purpose.
Join us to experience regenerative farming, hands-on learning, and a deeper connection to nature.

Our Why
We created Botanical Corner as a sanctuary where goats and sheep are cared for with respect and purpose — a place where every part of their life is valued, and nothing goes to waste.
Our Vision
We dream of a place where animals live with dignity, where nothing is wasted, and where humans and nature work together in a cycle of care --
a living example of how mindful stewardship can sustain both land and life.
Our Mission
Our mission is to offer goats and sheep a safe, loving home while showing how their milk, wool, and lives can be honored from start to finish. Volunteers are at the heart of this vision -- joining us in daily care, sustainable farming, and creative projects that bring people closer to nature.
Through shared work and cultural exchange, we hope to inspire a deeper respect for animals, the land, and the cycles that sustain us all.

Kind Words from our Volunteers
My experience on this farm was incredible. I spent three weeks in Santa Elena with Dani and Carol and
they were amazing hosts who made me feel welcome from the very beginning. I always called it my, home far away from home“.
I mainly helped with gardening, weeding, milking the goats, shearing the sheep, cleaning and organizing.
I was also encouraged to do arts and crafts and there were plenty of supplies available to use. Carolina (one of the local workers) even taught me how to make cheese and homemade tortillas. And I got the chance to bake my first sourdough bread:)
....Sometimes Carol and Dani are doing a trip to the waterfall nearby and they invite volunteers to join them. If you want to stay in Santa Elena you can go for a walk or hike up the hill to enjoy a beautiful sunset.
Thank you so much for this wonderful experience! I will never forget it and I hope I’ll have the chance to come back one day:)

It was my first volunteering experience and i couldn’t expect better ! I spend one month and a half here, and the time just flew by. Carol and Daniel created a paradise in the middle of mountains, surrounding by nature.
They are very caring, kind and welcoming hosts. They will always ask you if you have everything or if you need something.
The tasks are very varied : i’ve weeded, cut the tall grass, helped with the wood to construct a new house for the sheep and goats, cleaned and organized a lot of things in the farm, milked the goats, sheared the sheep, made cheese and tortillas, etc. Daniel and Carol started their farm project three years ago, ....
The volunteers’ house is very comfortable, and you will find everything you need there for a pleasant stay. ....
The workers – Carolina, Roberto, Mauricio and Noemi – are very friendly and i absolutely loved spending my time with them. This experience clearly wouldn’t have been the same without them. If you want to practice your Spanish, it’s definetely the good place ! Thanks to them, i learned a lot about Costa Rican culture. Thank you for everything ! I will come back, see you soon 😊

absolutely adored volunteering at Dani and Carol’s farm. It was an amazing time and I cherished everyday, as there was always something different and alive happening. It was a pleasure to take care of the animals and the land through the different tasks..... Definetely my most precious memory from this trip in Costa Rica. Dani and Carol have a lot of projects going on and they work passo a passo. If you stay a while you are able to see the progress you made which is great to see. If you want to have an experience full of life, I totally recommend! The area is also absolutely amazing, the most gorgeous sunset and views! Ahhhhhhh I experience so much in only a month, and I am so grateful! 😌

I spend a bit more than one month here and I truly enjoyed that time!
There were others volunteers with whom I lived and cooked and on weekends we went to the beach together.
One of the things I loved most was to be surrounded by so many animals.
There are dogs, an incredibly cute cat, lots of chickens and ducks and of course sheeps and goats. Dani and Carol try to let all the animals live as freely as possible.
I felt very comfortable in the house where we lived and also on the farm in general. They care a lot about everything being very clean and about the volunteers feeling welcomed. It was very nice to know that Dani was always there for us if we needed anything.
On the property there is a beautiful forest in which there will be hiking trails in the future.
The people working on the farm are extremely friendly and I loved to connect with them.
Concerning the work we often had the task to weed, mulch or organise things. We also shaved the sheep and in the future they want the volunteers to work more with goats and sheeps.
There are also many possibilities to spend your free time. Additionally to taking the bus to Sámara there is a waterfall close by, you can explore the property, hike on the mountain next to the finca or spend your afternoons with carding and spinning wool and cotton and making jewellery out of beads.
During all the weeks I spend there I was never bored :)

Great time with dani and carol. Responsibilities were clear, other volunteers were kind as well. Great food and caring family in addition to beautiful farm and environment. Work hard but play hard, there were trips to beaches and waterfall. You also learn a lot about farming since they are growing their finca and starting milking and cheesemaking and planting. Very much recommend for anyone interested in volunteering
